Funds Presented to
Wisconsin Parkinson Association
The culmination of many months of planning and
preparation coupled with a day filled with the gathering of walkers and
runners was celebrated Tuesday, August 24 at Timmer’s Restaurant on Big
Cedar Lake, West Bend.
A check in the amount of $6,500 was presented to Jay Blankenship,
executive director of Wisconsin Parkinson Association, by the committee
of Kenny’s Kettle Moraine Walk/Run for Parkinson’s. While this amount
didn’t meet the committee’s goals, Blankenship was ecstatic in accepting
the funds. “This is wonderful,” said Blankenship, indicating the funds
will be used for community outreach and education. “It will help so much
and allow us to continue our services throughout Wisconsin and areas in
connecting states.”
Kenny’s Walk/Run was held July 10 in the Northern Kettle
Moraine on the state trail winding through forest and prairie between
Mauthe Lake and Long Lake. Headquarters for the event was Sportsman’s
Park in Dundee. The walk/run is dedicated to Kenny Schneider, a
long-time resident of Dundee, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s some
years ago and continues to live and work in the area Kettle Moraine
Cares and its committee extends thanks to all who supported the event,
both in contributions and pledges, volunteering, and especially to the
walkers and runners who braved the heat that day.
The mission of the Wisconsin Parkinson Association is to
increase public awareness and understanding about Parkinson disease that
will lead to greater public support, improved treatment for patients,
better assistance for caregivers and families, and increased funding for
Parkinson disease research.
